I had a great time writing last week's Prospect Watch, and the article was received well by you guys so here's another! We're moving over to Bellator for this one. But make no mistake, even though he is not in the "promised land", he is quickly becoming one of the best talents not signed to the UFC.

A.J. McKee is currently ranked as the #9 featherweight in the world by mmajunkie, and that's a massive achievement considering he's not in the UFC and is only 25. "Mercenary" has great height and reach for the 145lb division, making him a nightmare for his opponents with his length.
What seems even more impressive than his physical accomplishments, is the skill set that he brings to the cage. The California native has amassed an impressive, undefeated record of 16-0 and has beaten a plethora of Bellator veterans along the way. Is he exciting? Well, 11 finishes in his 16 wins kind of answers that question for you. This once again shows how well-rounded the 25-year-old is, being able to finish his opponents on the feet or in the grappling exchanges.

Although the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix is currently on hold, he's definitely one of the favourites to win the tournament. The young 145er is currently in the semi-final of the tournament, and should he win will most likely face his toughest test against Patricio "Pitbull" Freire. This bout is the fight, if he wins, that will cement his place in the MMA elite, and can finally take him from prospect to superstar.
McKee is also a charismatic guy, which is a trait that is becoming increasingly more important in the world of MMA today. All the tools are there, and there's no doubting that if he continues to put on impressive performances he will be at the top of the UFC most wanted list.
So, now we've taken a look at his fighting ability and physical traits, let's take a look at how he matches up against the best in the UFC featherweight division.

Being so well rounded will be imperative should A.J. make his way to the UFC. The current 145lb UFC division is full of different styles and strengths. However, going by his recent fights, he should be comfortable where ever the fights takes place. He has six wins via KO/TKO, and five by the way of submission, meaning wherever the fight takes place, he has the weapons to close the show.
If he was to face let's say, Max Holloway, the reach and length advantage that the former featherweight king takes into most of his bouts would no longer be much of a factor. Also, McKee's cardio has looked great and has always held up even with his flashy and demanding style of striking. Plus, with being only 25 years old, he has a huge amount of time to improve and further his potential.
I think, regardless of whether he wins or loses in the Featherweight Grand Prix, we will see A.J. McKee in the UFC in the near future. Dana White will certainly not want to let a talent like this sign another contract with their rival promotion.
