Darren Till's coach Colin Heron has revealed the UFC fighter tore his MCL during his fight with Robert Whittaker on Fight Island last weekend.

Heading into the fight, many expected an all all-out war, one that was sure to leave both men with battle scars and it seems the battle has left Till wearing a cast for the next couple of months.

Talking to ESPN, Heron revealed physicians had confirmed the injury - one Till sustained in the fight's second round - earlier this week.

"Torn MCL, doctors are amazed he was able to stand for the last three rounds. He will be in a cast for six weeks and then we'll reassess, hopefully it will start to knit while immobilized."

The injury came when Whittaker knee-stomped the Englishman during the second round, with Till alerting his team in between rounds that he thought he'd blown out his left knee.

The Gorilla lost the bout to the Australian through a unanimous decision, but can take positives from his performance, with the fight incredibly close until the final round.

Till himself spoke of the injury during his post-fight press conference:

“In the second round, he knee-stomped me … and it just blew my knee. My knee just went (out) under me. It crashed. That was it then for the whole fight. I just had to stay static and sort of just fight on it.”

The Englishman remained in positive spirits despite the loss and is adamant there's still a world championship run in his future.
