Cory Sandhagen vs Marlon Moraes in the Works for UFC October Main-Event

Chris Simpson

MMA news out-let Combate have reported Cory Sandhagen vs Marlon Moraes is being targeted for an October UFC main-event. Combate has also stated that no contracts have been signed, but it is the direction the UFC are looking to go.

The Colorado-born Sandhagen is coming off a swift loss to Aljamain Sterling in his last outing. However, before that, he was riding a 7 fight win streak, besting the likes of Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker along the way. Cory was one win away from a title shot when he was submitted in the first round by a dangerous Sterling. The 28-year-old will be hoping to regain title contention status with a win over Moraes. Sandhagen is currently ranked No.4 in the UFC rankings.

Marlon "Magic" Moraes was due to fight Petr Yan at UFC Kazakstan, however, following the corona-virus outbreak, and Henry Cejudo's retirement, the fight was scrapped and subsequently re-booked to be Yan vs Jose Aldo for the vacant 135lb strap. The Brazilian believes he has a strong claim to the number one contender spot, especially as he has wins over both Aljamain Sterling and Jose Aldo. The 32-year-old will look to reiterate his point and quickly push aside his American opponent.

A very intriguing fight, and one that could shape the title picture going into the new year.
